The goals in our Bank (and those that we will continue to add over time) are specific to school settings such as the classroom, cafeteria, playground, quad, and the "OT Room." We believe that goals must be SMART and measurable in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). In fact, we often state where the goal is to be met within the goal itself. That way, there is no confusion. We also believe that goals must be collaborative, autonomous, and observable. That's why you will not find "hand-over-hand" goals in our goal bank. We strive to include goals that can be implemented by the entire team (collaborative) and those that are more specific to OT. This Goal Bank is designed for school-based OTs and OTAs who frequently draft IEP, 504, and/or Student Support Team goals. How many goals are in the goal bank? As of 1/1/2024, there are more than 25 goals in the bank and we aim to add 5 new goals each month. If you can't find a goal that fits your needs, you can use our goal request feature, and we will move your goal needs to the top of our list for goals to create. How will I find the goals I need? We group the goals by skill (ex. Handwriting, sensory, executive function, etc.). However, you can also use our seacrh bar to find a goal the works for you. There is also a Bookmark feature available for you to easily find the goals you most frequently use. What if I cannot find a goal to meet my needs? Oh no, that wouldn't be good. While we cannot guarantee that we will have all the goals you will ever need. We can promise to help you write the goals you need. Your Instructor Amy Coopersmith, OTD, OTR/L; MA Ed Amy Coopersmith, OTD, OTR/L; MA Ed, is a self-determination advocate with over 30 years of experience as a pediatric occupational therapist and teacher. As a school-based practitioner in New York City, she worked as a clinician, evaluator and supervisor serving over 100 schools. Amy noticed that the child-led teaching methods she used during her years as an educator made a big difference in children’s lives. She implemented those ideas as an occupational therapist and found that children made faster progress and demonstrated greater motivation and engagement using these methods. Author of the Self-Determination Strategies Toolkit and the Captain Me program for young children, Amy strives to teach practitioners and educators how to implement evidence-informed strategies to promote children’s autonomy. Amy earned her doctorate from Temple University in 2022, where she conducted a research study on children’s self-determination. In addition to authoring the book, Mental health promotion, prevention, and intervention with children and youth: A guiding framework for occupational therapy (2011), Dr. Bazyk has authored over 40 journal articles and book chapters in leading OT textbooks. She is nationally recognized for her research and leadership in building capacity of occupational therapy practitioners and interdisciplinary school professionals to address the mental health needs of children and youth. From 2018-2020, Dr. Bazyk served as a content expert for a large, SAMHSA-funded initiative in collaboration with Dr. Sarah Nielsen (University of North Dakota). In this capacity, Susan developed a virtual, 5-month building capacity initiative that is housed on SAMHSA’s Healtheknowledge platform. As a Fulbright Specialist, Dr. Bazyk has presented on her work in New Zealand (2020) and in Ireland (October 2023).
